2026 Mazda CX-5: Everything You Need to Know

Overview

The 2026 Mazda CX-5 marks the third generation of Mazda’s best-selling compact SUV. While it’s not a full redesign, it brings significant updates in design, space, technology, and comfort. This new model was officially revealed in July 2025 and is set to arrive at dealerships in early 2026.

Design & Dimensions

The CX-5 has grown in size, now 4.5 inches longer, with a 3-inch longer wheelbase and half an inch wider than before. The exterior showcases a refined design with sleek, stacked LED headlights, a sharper front grille, and cleaner lines inspired by Mazda’s larger SUVs like the CX-70. At the back, the Mazda logo is replaced with bold “MAZDA” lettering, accompanied by slim taillights and dual exhaust outlets on upper trims.

Interior & Technology

Inside, the CX-5 feels more spacious and premium. There’s noticeably more rear legroom, knee room, and headroom. The cargo area is larger and more accessible with a lower loading height.

The centerpiece is a 12.9-inch touchscreen that comes standard, with an optional 15.6-inch screen that integrates Google apps, including Maps and Assistant. Physical controls are minimized—no more rotary knob or volume buttons—replaced with touchscreen commands and steering-wheel controls. The cabin also features ambient lighting, a fully digital driver display, USB-C ports, and available wireless phone charging.

Powertrain

At launch, the CX-5 continues with Mazda’s 2.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine, producing 187 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. The turbocharged engine has been discontinued for 2026. A new in-house hybrid powertrain is planned for the 2027 model year, marking a major step in Mazda’s electrification strategy.

Safety

Mazda continues its focus on safety with a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems. Features include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and more. The 2026 CX-5 is expected to earn top safety ratings from both U.S. and Canadian regulatory bodies.

Pricing & Availability

Official pricing hasn’t been announced, but a modest increase over the previous generation’s base price (starting around $30,000 CAD) is expected. The new CX-5 will hit Canadian showrooms in early 2026, with hybrid versions following in 2027.
